Salthouse Store, Salthouse

Salthouse Store is situated in the Village of Salthouse. We caught up with the owners Naomi & Chris to find out more about the Village store and coffee shop in Salthouse.

Can you tell us a little bit about Salthouse

Ideally situated on the village green and just a few steps from the footpaths that cross the salt marshes to the beach, Salthouse is a well-stocked village store and coffee shop. We also have holiday lets available.

What can visitors expect to find on the menu at Salthouse?

A delicious array of cakes, pastries and the fabulous Norfolk Coffee.

What makes Salthouse unique?

Locally roasted Norfolk Coffee can be served in our beautiful Made in Cley Pottery and enjoyed within the shop. Alternatively, drinks can be taken away, with visitors given the opportunity to borrow a picnic blanket should they choose to enjoy the stunning views from the village green.
With Salthouse marsh being considered an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is home to common and rare species of birds. With this in mind, one of our shop windows has a telescope for customers to either observe the wildlife, or even the passing boats and ships! We have a chalk-board in the porch and local weekly sightings are welcomed.

What do you love most about what you do?

Salthouse village we feel is a very special place and it is such a pleasure to just be here, to be part of the community, to meet so many different people and to be able to stare out of the windows at such a tranquil and ever-changing vista.
Our love of North Norfolk, as well as our interests in wildlife and arts and crafts, is reflected in the books, cards, stationary and gifts we have curated and which sit alongside newspapers, magazines, provisions, wines, beers and spirits, and of course the delicious coffee, pastries and cakes!

After visiting you, where would you recommend for a nice walk?

We are very lucky to have the gorgeous Salthouse Circular walk on our doorstep. The walk takes in the Norfolk Flintstone village, as well as the heathland and gorse around Bard Hill before dropping back down over fields, to then walk alongside the Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Cley Marshes Nature Reserve and beach, finishing at the Dun Cow Pub with its beautiful beer garden over-looking the marsh. Perfect!.

What is your favourite thing to do in North Norfolk on your day off?

Days off are spent taking advantage of the beautiful beaches and countryside we have in abundance on our doorstep. As a family, we enjoy kayaking through the creeks and rivers and often end with a barbecue on Salthouse beach whilst watching the sunset over the sea.
